Birkenstock 365 Days 29 and 30

Welcome back to the Birkenstock 365!

Yup, you guessed it, another double-dip into the photo pool because I won’t be near a computer tomorrow. Don’t dare think I won’t be thinking about you all, however. I DO plan on sharing some of the photo’s I’ve taken in my favorite pair of Birkenstock footwear. Can you guess which pair they might be?

Today’s selection comes to us all the way from Taiwan! What a random shot, a gentleman carrying a Birkenstock advertisement. Think we should tell him he’s got the outdated logo on that thing? Oh well, looks great regardless.

The shot we selected for Friday is also pretty awesome. This kid looks like he just might be up to no good, a fitting selection for a Friday, no? At least he’s chosen a sweet pair of clogs to accompany him in his endeavors.

Here’s hoping everyone gets some traveling in this weekend and stays out of trouble. I know I’ll do both!

Tread Lightly,

Aaron

Birkenstocks Embroidery

Hello again!

Feeling creative? It might be hard to top today’s featured photo. This is someone’s interpretation of our classic Arizona in embroidery. This should really be hung in our office somewhere! How neat, and simple. We’ve already said that we’ll welcome artistic renditions, does anyone else out there have something sweet stashed away they’d like to share? Keep it classy, folks. Donate all your Birkenstock related pictures to the flickr pool today.

Go create!

Aaron

Birkenstock 365 Day 27

Marcia della pace

Hey-yo! Thanks for checking back in with us for day 27 of the Birkenstock 365 project.

Pace (Peace in Italian) is surely something we can all get behind. Today’s selection displays a couple gents rocking their favorite pair of Arizonas with some friends in front of a great backdrop of Pace flags.

All these pictures continue to impress! I’m not-so-secretly gathering photos from our very own staff here at Birkenstock to show you all how we wear them when we’re not working. Perhaps a Birkenstock employee themed week is in order? Until then, please add your pictures to our flickr pool here.

Tread Lightly,

Aaron

Birkenstock 365 Day 26

July 27, 2009

Armstrong

Good morning everyone, welcome back to the Birkenstock 365!

The photo featured today shows us an unmistakable Birkenstock footprint in the sand, something I certainly hope some of you were able to leave behind last weekend. The sands of the beaches where we relax shall know our presence! There’s something I love about the simplicity of this photograph. It could represent the ending to anyone’s weekend story, and thus shall mark the beginning of this week’s 365.

Where did your favorite pair of Birkenstock footwear take you this weekend? Did you happen to take any photographs of the activities your sandals carried you to and fro? Let us know, drop them into the Birkenstock 365 Flickr Pool, send them to us through Facebook, or point us in the right direction using Twitter.

Looking forward to tomorrow.

Tread Lightly,

Aaron

Project Spectrum Birkenstocks

Welcome back again!

It’s been a busy day around here, my apologies that this entry is coming in a bit later than usual. That being said, we’re all looking forward to a weekend with our feet off the ground, perhaps nestled nicely amongst some garden foliage per the suggestive nature of this photo!

May you all find some R&R this weekend, you deserve it!

Aaron

Birkenstock 365 Day 24

bm #5

Top of the day to you all, thanks again for stopping back by to see what we’re up to!

By the looks of things you’d think we were doing some house cleaning. Ok well, maybe I do need to vacuum under my desk, I’m still shaking off dust from the great salt lake. Either way, we love this photo, it looks very professional and it’s got tons of comments where it resides on flickr, perhaps it’ll net us a couple comments here. We can only assume she’s standing on the vacuum so as not to dirty her shiny pair of silver Gizehs!

Think you can snap a better photo? Does it get more original than this one? Prove it!

Until then…

Tread Lightly,

Aaron

Birkenstock 365 Day 23

Microin' : feet thingy

Gooooooooooooood Morning!

Today we’d like to feature one of our lesser known products. This is a very simple shot we’ve had in the Birkenstock 365 Flickr Pool for sometime. I’d managed to keep skipping over it during the selection process until I received my very own pair in the mail late last week. This is the Birkenstock Alabama, a lace-up shoe available up to a size 46 (US equivalent to a Men’s 13-13.5).

I wore this shoe around Salt Lake City the past few days where I attended the Outdoor Retailer trade show. It features the same famous Birkenstock footbed in a stylish-yet-simple shoe. Sorry for the plug on this one but I seem to have fallen in love with it! You just might too… it’s definitely worth a shot.

The Alabama is not the only product we manufacture that’s available in large sizes, gents. Do yourself a favor and have a gander at the product line, find your local retailer and get yourself fitted for some large scale comfort.

See you all tomorrow!

Tread Lightly,

Aaron

A Life In Zurichs: 30 Years in Birkenstock Sandals

July 21, 2009

We received this email yesterday from a confirmed Birkenstock lover and just had to share:

Tonight, I was walking my dog with a neighbor and I was wearing my Zurichs. They became a point of discussion because of their age and unique history. She could not believe that I have had these shoes for 30 years. In fact, she pointed out that she was one when I bought them! Shame on her!

Yes, they are my favorites and they have walked many miles around the planet with me. I bought them in New Haven Connecticut in 1979 and most people who saw them on my feet made fun of me. They made fun until I let them try them on! Back then, they were the MOST expensive pair of shoes I had ever purchased and coveted them for a long time before I could afford to buy them. From the minute I put them on my feet…. I could not take them off. Yes, even in the snowy months!

Anyhow, I have grown up with these shoes. I went to see Simon and Garfunkel in Central Park in them…. explored Stonehenge … rode an elephant in the jungle of Thailand in them…. hot air ballooning in Morroco….walked the streets of Llhasa wearing my trusty Birks! I walked the communities in the four states I have lived in wearing them. These shoes have been re-corked… barged… soled and worn back down yet again.

I wear them because now they are beyond shoes…. they are ol’ friends. Over the years, I have purchased 4 other pairs… all of which I enjoy but not like my Zurichs! There is something magical about these shoes! I am happy when I am in them. I am an explorer… an adventurer…. a wild woman breaking out of the ordinary in them and what’s funny is… I have felt all of these things since I bought them. It is sort of like the shoes have blazed my trail. I never know where the trail will lead but I definitely know what will be on my feet!

I share all of this for no other reason but to say thank you! I am so glad you brought Birkenstock to the US! I love my Zurichs! While my walk tonight might seem like an ordinary affair…. my neighbor and I agree…. it was truly extraordinary. How many can say that they have had their shoes for 30 years and will travel in them for 30 more gladly! And as my friend noted… “and they don’t even smell!” Just laugh.

Peace and Happy Trails!

Nora

Birkenstock 365 Day 22

Birkenstock

This image tells a great story; a lazy summer day, a slow walk in the sun, taking a few minutes to sit on a bridge to cool down and talk. You can almost hear the crickets chirping in the nearby field, the burble of the river gently flowing below and the laughter of your friends as you giggle and tell jokes. A perfect moment to stretch your toes out in your sandals and close your eyes…

…which reminds me how I ought to get out of the office a little more often. ;)

If you’d like to participate in our community art project, Birkenstock 365, upload your picture to our Flickr Pool, tweet us on Twitter, or leave us a message on Facebook. Or just relax, come back every day and enjoy the images as much as we are.

Until tomorrow,

Martin

Birkenstock 365 Day 21

July 20, 2009

jake, ball and birkenstocks

Aaron is off at a trade show this week, so it’s up to me to introduce today’s entry to the Birkenstock 365 collection. I hope I can keep up the great work he’s been doing.

This picture is called, “Jake, Ball and Birkenstocks.”

See Jake. See Jake’s ball. See Jake’s owner realizing that Jake’s been running around too much so it’s time to lay in the grass and show off her silver Madrids.

And who can blame her?

This is fun! I’ll see if I can do this tomorrow too. If you have a picture you’d like to see here, please submit it to our Flickr Pool. Or even follow everything we’re doing on Facebook.

Until tomorrow,

Martin
