Birkenstock 365 Days 49 & 50

Birkenstock Milano Recraft

Good day everyone! Thanks again for sticking with us through 50 business days of the Birkenstock 365. I’ve managed a day off tomorrow so you’re being treated to another double-scoop on the Birkenstock 365 waffle cone.

The first picture arrived in the flickr pool overnight and is an automatic winner. First, it’s tagged in flickr as being shot in Eugene, OR which is a place dear to me and the location of my alma mater. Second, it’s a fantastic photo. There we go with the socks and sandals again, however. I still need an explanation, people!

The second photo is of an ancient Milano that was completely reconstructed. We told you our sandals are renewable! Have a look at the reconstruction process in the Mountain Soles set on flickr. (Fun Fact: I used to see Matt from Mountain Soles at my old job in Portland where he’d come pick up shoes to repair for us.)

Thank you guys for the kind words in the comments, I’m really enjoying this project. Also, HI MOM!

Tread Lightly,

Aaron

  1. Hey,Aaron This isn’t that hard. When the weather gets a little cool you can’t abandon your favorite Birks, so you just add socks. Nobody likes cold feet. Plus Birks are the only sandals you can legally wear socks with. Keep on keepin on. kno55

  3. Hi Aaron, what shop did you work for?

Thanks for posting our photo on your blog. The rebuilt sandals can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mtnsoles/832317976/in/set-72157621898407170/
We do this sort of repair all the time and it really shows that they can go on and on for a very long time!

    Thanks Again!

  4. Malt - Repairs I would imagine vary on the services needed. Soles, footbeds, buckles, straps all can be repaired and replaced.

Matt - Hey! Glad to know you guys are still doing well. I worked in the Salomon Service Center. You did great work, it appears nothing has changed. Nice work on these Milano’s!

  5. Malt-

A full “recraft” (new footbeds and soles) runs $69.00 a pair.
A simple resole with no cork damage is $39.00 a pair.

  6. I’d like to see an “after” photo of the restoration. I own 13 pair of Birkenstocks from when I was a temporary worker at Birkenstock approximately 15 years ago and they are at the end of their useful life. None too pretty anymore, either! Perhaps there’s hope for mine?
